Opening Sequences And Enigma - Film 1

In this post I will be looking at the opening sequence of Fight Club and analysing the element of enigma and mystery in it.

At the start of the opening sequence of Fight Club the "Narrator" whose name we don't know played by Edward Norton is seen held a gunpoint strapped to a chair with the barrel in his mouth. We are not told how he got here.  We are introduced to a character named Tyler who we do not know anything about. The Narrator mentions "a girl named Marla Singer" but we are not given any more information on her.
